CSK Bounce Back With Convincing Win Over KKR
Chennai, April 8, 2024: The Chennai Super Kings returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday. After being put in to bat first, KKR were restricted to 137/9 in their 20 overs, thanks to an excellent bowling performance led by Ravindra Jadeja’s 3/18. CSK then chased down the target with 14 balls to spare, with opener Ruturaj Gaikwad anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 67 off 58 balls.
It was a dream start for CSK as Tushar Deshpande dismissed the dangerous Phil Salt on the very first ball of the innings. KKR never really recovered from that early blow as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Angkrish Raghuvanshi (24) and Sunil Narine (27) got starts but failed to capitalize. Ravindra Jadeja was the wrecker-in-chief, picking up 3 crucial wickets including that of Narine and KKR captain Shreyas Iyer (34). Tushar Deshpande and Mustafizur Rahman also chipped in with a couple of wickets each.
In reply, CSK lost Rachin Ravindra early but Ruturaj Gaikwad (67) and Daryl Mitchell (25) repaired the innings with a 70-run stand for the second wicket. After Mitchell fell, Shivam Dube provided the late impetus with a breezy 28 off 18 balls as CSK cruised to victory. Vaibhav Arora (2/28) was the most successful KKR bowler on the day.
The convincing win takes CSK to the top half of the points table, while KKR remain in the middle after their third loss in five games. Ruturaj Gaikwad was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock.
