CSK Post 176/6 After Jadeja’s Valiant Knock
Ravindra Jadeja played a crucial innings of 57 off 40 balls to lift Chennai Super Kings to 176/6 against Lucknow Super Giants after they were in trouble at 68/3 in the 12th over. Opting to bat first, CSK opted to open with the experienced Ajinkya Rahane who scored a brisk 36 off 24 balls. However, wickets fell at regular intervals as Mohsin Khan, Krunal Pandya and Yash Thakur struck to reduce CSK to 87/5 in the 12th over.
It was then that Jadeja, promoted up the order at No. 4, combined with Moeen Ali (30 off 20) to resurrect the innings. The duo added 46 runs for the 6th wicket before Moeen fell to Ravi Bishnoi. Jadeja though continued his attack, bringing up a well-deserved fifty and celebrating with his trademark sword celebration – a first in the IPL for many years.
MS Dhoni then provided the final flourish, clobbering 28 off just 9 balls as CSK amassed 54 runs in the last 4 overs. Dhoni opened up towards the end, hitting a scoop six off Mohsin Khan and then hammering Yash Thakur for a four and six off the final over.
For LSG, Mohsin Khan, Krunal Pandya and Yash Thakur took a wicket apiece while Ravi Bishnoi was economical, giving away just 25 runs in his 4 overs.
With 177 to get, dew is expected to be a factor in the second innings. LSG will bank on their strong batting lineup featuring Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis and KL Rahul to chase down the target at their home ground.
