GT vs DC – Capitals Skittle Titans for Paltry 89 in Ahmedabad Shocker
The Gujarat Titans were skittled for a paltry 89 in 17.3 overs against the Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2024 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. After Delhi captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first, the Capitals’ bowlers ran riot to bundle out the defending champions for their lowest-ever IPL total.
Ishant Sharma provided the early breakthrough by dismissing opener Shubman Gill for 8. Part-timer Tristan Stubbs then struck twice in the 9th over to remove Abhinav Manohar (8) and super-sub Shahrukh Khan (0) as Gujarat slumped to 43/5.
GT vs DC – Wriddhiman Saha (2), Sai Sudharsan (12) and David Miller (2) also fell cheaply as only skipper Hardik Pandya’s replacement Rahul Tewatia (10) reached double figures for the Titans.
Rashid Khan’s counterattacking 31 off 24 balls, including a six, was the sole bright spot in an otherwise dismal batting display by Gujarat. Mukesh Kumar, Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs and Khaleel Ahmed picked up two wickets each for Delhi.
This is Gujarat’s lowest total in IPL history, falling below their previous low of 125/6 against Delhi last year. It is also the lowest total at the Ahmedabad ground, besting the 92 scored by Mumbai against Delhi in 2012.
With a paltry 89 to defend, the Titans face an uphill battle to prevent Delhi from registering a big win and boosting their net run rate substantially. The Capitals will be brimming with confidence chasing such a modest target in the second innings.
