PBKS Aim to Build on Momentum Against High-Flying SRH
Mullanpur, New Chandigarh (April 9, 2024): After a morale-boosting win against Gujarat Titans, the Punjab Kings will hope to carry that momentum into their four-match home stretch, starting with a clash against the rampaging Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday.
While the Kings’ campaign has sputtered so far with just two wins from six matches, SRH have been one of the teams to beat this season. The Hyderabad side boasts the most prolific batting unit, with an astonishing 277/3 against Mumbai Indians being the highest-ever IPL total.
“SRH’s batting has been a nightmare to deal with this season,” admitted PBKS assistant coach Brad Haddin. “We’ll have to be at our best, especially in the death overs which has been a concern area.”
PBKS have the second-worst economy rate of 12.65 in the final four overs, something Haddin hopes can be improved during their home games on familiar tracks.
The recent emergence of Shashank Singh has provided a boost to PBKS’ batting. But the form of openers Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh remains a worry against SRH’s quality pace attack led by Pat Cummins.
For SRH, the availability of Mayank Agarwal, who missed the last game due to illness, will be a call taken closer to the match. The visitors are likely to target PBKS’ struggles against left-arm spin by opening the bowling with Abhishek Sharma.
With the pacers enjoying more success recently at the Mullanpur stadium, the game could boil down to which bowling unit handles the death overs better against two destructive batting lineups.
